After months of debating, Kamala Harris chooses to endorse Biden after ending her 2020 presidential campaign in December 2019. Along with Harris endorsing Biden, several other political leaders such as Amy Klobuchar,Pete Buttigieg, and Beto O'Rourke. Before the 2020 presidential campaign, Harris and Biden shared a unique past. As a past attorney general for California, she shared a relationship with Biden's late son, Beau as he was the attorney general of Delaware at the time. Over the past few years, Biden has also encouraged Harris to stay in politics despite rough start. But, despite having an amiable relationship, they have both previously clashed in the past. In June 2019, Harris attacked Biden for his opposition over a policy fight segregation in schools. In addition, Harris also ridiculed Biden siding with two democratic senators who preferred racial segregation.  At the time, Harris did not believe Biden was racist, but saw it as hurtful towards her and her community. But, despite this incident, Harris said she would "do anything in her power" to have Biden win, claiming that Biden is honorable, caring and will listen to the people of America. Harris has also been seen helping Biden and his family cope with troubling times after the lost of their son. Officials have also noted that Biden is willing to consider Harris as a potential Vice President if he were to become the next President of the US.

Questions:
1. Is it possible that Kamala Harris endorsed Biden in hopes to become Vice President, or was her words really what she meant?

2.Why would Harris want to endorse Biden despite their argument in 2019?

3.How would Harris' endorsement affect Biden's campaign?

  1. I think it is very possible that Kamala Harris endorsed Biden in hopes of becoming the Vice President. She probably has a better chance of becoming the Vice President than becoming the President. Harris would most likely want to endorse Biden because may share some similar views with her. I think that Harris's endorsement will affect Biden's campaign in a positive way.

  2. I believe that Kamala Harris did this for a specific reason. Although they had arguments in the past,Kamala probably thinks that Biden will become the Democrat going against Trump. By endorsing Biden, Kamala will probably want some kind of position in government if he is elected. This will help Biden's campaign because Harris has supporters, they will vote for Biden instead of Bernie.

  3. Replying to question 2, I believe that Harris endorsed Biden because of his ties to President Obama before Trump took over. She may see him as a more powerful ally because Bernie has never gotten as high as Biden had. Besides, many other candidates also endorsed Biden, causing many to think whether or not they made secret promises not to endorse Bernie. There are definitely many reasons why she chose Biden to endorse, and we can only see who reaps the benefits if Biden is elected.

  4. Despite the argument Harris and Biden had back in 2019, Harris may have endorsed Biden in an attempt to unify more moderate democrats behind Biden and prevent a more liberal and extreme Bernie Sanders from becoming the democratic nominee. This would appear to be the same logic Buttigieg and Klobuchar used to drop out of the democratic primary process and endorse Biden (to unify moderate democrats behind one common candidate instead of splitting them amongst a few). Becoming Biden's vice president may be a thought Harris considered, yet obviously, it doesn't matter who his vice president would be if he is unable to defeat Sanders and actually become the democratic nominee.

  5. I believe that, given their history and personal relationship that they have built up over the years, as well as Harris' role in comforting Biden's family with the passing of his son, Harris knows Biden's character very well, and genuinely means it when she says she endorses him as the next POTUS; while it would be a bonus to become president, I don't think she is just saying this for political gain, because although they have had a few public arguments in the past, if she really thought he was racist and a bad person, she would have stopped supporting him a while back now. A few public disputes in the political world is normal and expected, because every candidate can't be expected to agree on everything, and they are very vocal to others about how their views are better than others, creating arguments.

  6. (Question 3)
Kamala Harris' endorsement is sure to help Biden's campaign in a a big way. At this point, nearly all major candidates that have dropped out of the 2020 Democratic primaries have endorsed Biden, which means that he should have an extremely strong chance of beating Sanders. Though Harris' support for his campaign is admirable and appreciated, I feel it is unlikely that she will be chosen to be Biden's vice president if he is elected. Personally, I believe the two of them have clashed too many times in the past, and there are other, more high-profile options that Biden could choose-but then again, I might be wrong...I'm no expert on politics.
