On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, Bernie Sanders announced that he would be ending his presidential campaign. This would clear the way for Joseph Biden to be the Democratic nominee for the presidential election against Donald Trump. Along with many other democratic candidates, Sanders has decided to endorse Biden's campaign. He said, "I cannot in good conscience continue to mount a campaign that cannot win and which would interfere with the important work required of all of us in this difficult hour. " Many voters believed that Biden would have a better chance against President trump than Sanders, because Sanders was very socialist supporting free medicare for all as well as tuition free colleges. As the democratic nominee, one of the things on Biden's agenda will be to help prevent climate change.

1. Do you think that Bernie Sanders should have continued his presidential campaign?
2. Do you think that Bernie Sanders will try to run for President again in the future? Why or why not?
3. Do you think that Biden will pursue some of Sander's ideas such as medicare for all?

  1. I think that Biden may have a better chance of winning than Bernie Sanders because Sanders tends to lean toward more socialist views, so he doesn't garner total support from the Democrats. I doubt that Sanders will try to run again; he is very, very old and likely won't be in the good enough condition for that when the opportunity to run arises again. I doubt that Biden will directly pursue some of Sander's ideas, such as medicare, because he would want to separate his policies from Sanders to not appear as socialist. However, that's not to say that he may pursue some similar ideas eventually, such as pushing for the availability of higher education for those that do not have the means to pay for it.

  2. I think one of the reasons for doing this was the end result of the last election, for the democratic candidates one of the reasons people speculate they lost were that they failed to rally around one candidate to form a united front. Although not all democratic voters had Joe Biden in mind for the presidency, there is a better chance of the democrats taking the 2020 election. Bernie Sanders also dropped out before the DNC's nomination had to be made, this takes away any idea that the DNC had deprived him of the nomination - similar to last election.

  3. I don't think that Sanders should have continued his campaign because Biden appeared to be ahead and closer to the democratic nomination than Bernie did. I also don't believe he will try and run again. This is not the first time he has tried to run for president, and it is also his second time for being the runner-up for the democratic nomination. I would also take into account how much work running for president is, and Bernie is getting a little older. Biden has his own ideals as the president, and I can't confirm this, but I think Bernie endorsed Biden for the presidency, meaning that the two may have similar views in politics.

  4. I don't believe that Sanders will run in the future, as he has already tried for the past two elections, and has came in second both times. In addition, Sanders is getting a bit old to run for president, considering the next election will be four years from now. For number 1, I don't believe that Sanders should have continued his campaign because Biden was already leading, and there was no use trying to cause more chaos, especially with the corona virus being the major source of news, he dropped out. I believe that he endorsed Biden because he isn't going to endorse Trump; he will endorse a fellow democratic, even if their beliefs slightly vary. Even if Sanders did continue with his campaign, he wouldn't be able to catch up, based on how many delegate votes Biden already had compared to Sanders.

  5. I don't think that Biden will pursue Sanders' medicare for all because he's stated multiple times that he would veto it. Also, despite the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, NBC News said that Biden still opposes medicare for all. During an interview on TV, Biden said that a medicare for all system is a single payer system that wouldn't work in this pandemic because he thinks the federal government should be more involved. Biden's plan is too make more people eligible to Obamacare and expand the "safety net" for people who lack medical coverage. Even with the growing pandemic, I think Biden will probably stick with his beliefs and his plan not only because that's what he seems to be passionate about, but also because switching opinions might be confusing in his campaign.

  6. Bernie Sanders won't try to run for president again in the future for a few key reasons. First and foremost - he's too old, a presidential campaign requires constant travel hitting two sometimes three cities a day for months on end without rest. And at each city he has to be at his best whether he's giving a rally or doing a small meet and greet he can't let his fatigue catch up to him. He'll be 82 next election season, and he'll be too old to maintain that fast lifestyle and always stay at top shape mentally. Second, he's tried before and he hasn't succeeded, even though some of his ideas have gained traction, voters just haven't grown to like him. Whether it's his out there ideas or his curmudgeon persona - Bernie Sanders does not resonate with the American public. He should understand this soon -- another presidential campaign would only waste his time and money, and at the very least his ideas have spread which seemed like was always his end goal.

  7. I don't think Bernie Sanders will try to run for president again in the future due to the fact that he is getting old and campaigning to be president requires frequently going out to different areas across the country and it's very tiresome and energy consuming. I don't think that Bernie Sanders should have continued his campaign because the numbers were coming out that Biden would be the Democratic Nominee. I think it was smart of him to finally drop out and it allows the Democratic Party to focus more heavily on Joe Biden. I don't know if Joe Biden will pursue any of Bernie Sanders medical beliefs but I would guess he will attempt to attack the problem of the lack of affordable healthcare and try to restore something like Obamacare.

  8. I don't think that he should have continued to run because Biden received many endorsements that did not support Bernie as well. Bernie had a really good chances, but the other candidates chose to support Biden over him. It seems like everyone was against him, so the chances of him continuing were slim.

  9. I don't think Biden will adopt Sanders' ideas because Sanders was very socialist and Biden is more moderate, but I think that is what gives him a better chance at winning the presidency. Many republicans would rather vote for Biden than for Sanders because of the fact that he is less extreme and not socialist like Sanders.
